Join us on July 16th for our summer CME Dinner Meeting featuring guest speaker, Andrea D. Maderal, MD. Dr. Maderal is Associate Professor of Dermatology at University of Miami. 

Title: Leprosy: An Old Dog with New Tricks
 
Learning Objectives:
  • Review history of leprosy
  • Discuss epidemiology of the infection globally and in the United States
  • Identify the various clinical presentations of leprosy infection and review the immunologic reactions
  • Detail updated management strategies 
Andrea D. Maderal, M.D. is originally from Miami, Florida. She performed her undergraduate education at the University of Pennsylvania before returning to Miami for both her medical school education and residency training at the University of Miami. There, she developed an interest in complex medical dermatology, with a specific focus in autoimmune connective tissue diseases. During her final year of residency, she served as Chief Resident, focusing on resident education, and, together with the Chair, Robert S. Kirsner, M.D., Ph.D., started the department’s first Autoimmune Connective Tissue Disease Clinic, specializing in patients with these complex disorders. Andrea D. Maderal, M.D. is currently an Associate Professor with the Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She continues to focus on managing complex dermatology cases as Director of the Autoimmune Connective Tissue Disease Clinic, Chief of the Jackson Memorial Hospital Inpatient Consult service, and Director of the Hansen’s Disease Program. She also continues to focus on education as the Director of Dermatology Medical Student Education. She is involved in leadership roles within her department as well, as Director of Clinical Operations for the Dr. Phillip Frost Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery.
